Your Questions for the Assistant Superintendent Wanted

(Oct. 5, 2008) – Sorry this is last minute, but if you have some questions you’d like asked of ISD 192 assistant superintendent for education services, Christine Weymouth, please email them to me ASAP at tim@burke4board.com.

I’m having coffee tomorrow (Monday) morning at 7 a.m. (ouch) with Dr. Weymouth. The coffee date was at her invitation after I wrote to her asking for an explanation of the management of the district’s Department of Teaching and Learning.

I have some things I plan to ask about, but this isn’t meant to be an interrogation or a gotcha kind of thing. I have a bunch of issues I want to get a better handle on and Dr. Weymouth was gracious enough to invite me for a chat.

I will be bringing a little voice recorder along and hope to be able to share the recording of our conversation later on Monday or as soon as I can figure out how to get the audio out of the recorder and onto the internet.

Some of the subjects I plan to raise include:

  • More on the Department of Teaching and Learning and what it’s actually doing, not just a list of areas it’s working in, but specific measures it’s taking to improve achievement?
  • How we go about grouping students in classes and what the district’s philosophy is on this subject?
  • How are curriculum being delivered across our four (soon to be five) elementary school, what latitude do buildings have in this matter, what variations are there, are they intentional, experimental or random?
  • What’s happening with curriculum mapping?
  • Given our state test scores and those of our neighbors, what are we doing to learn from other districts so we don’t have to reinvent the wheel?
  • What’s happening with Q-Comp in our district, the state-funded effort to reward teachers for excellence in teaching as a way to improve achievement? How many teachers are receiving Q-Comp bonuses and how are we evaluating the benefits of Q-Comp in terms are student achievement?

If you have other questions you would like to know the answers to, please email them to me today (tim@burke4board.com). Thanks.
